Why has one of my 18 week old Black Sex Links kill two little birds (not sure what type) that have flown into the yard? I could tell something was going on by the way the flock was chasing her around. I went out and took the little bird away before they could tear it to shreds. Is this normal?

[IMG] Well it may be normal for chickens but we don't have to like it. I've heard others say their chickens do the same.

Greetings from Kansas, chicken adobo, and [IMG]! Great to have you here! I think it is very normal. Chickens are very pecking order dominated - they will attack whatever they perceive as weaker. They've been known to kill and eat mice, snakes - anything over which they feel they have an advantage. That is why chicks aren't introduced into the established flock until they are a certain size and age.
