Hi! Glad to have found this site, seems like lots of interesting and helpful info is being shared
We are looking to add some backyard chickens to our family within the next year. Would like to keep it small (4-6 hens, I think?), as pets/layers.
We don't have a coop yet but would like something suitable for keeping them over the winter. Would love to hear what size/type coops other Nova Scotians have for their small flocks, there are so many plans out there it's hard to know where to start, and what is most suited for our climate!
Once the coop is sorted we will start looking for chicks or pullets, we've done some looking online and these varieties appeal, but we'd love to hear suggestions on what is available and best suited to this area:
Wyandotte
Brahma
Dominique
Plymouth Rock
Sussex
Cream Legbars (may be too rare to find here?)
Looking forward to connecting with other Nova Scotians/Maritimers/Zone 5' ers and learning lots!
