I'm a bit slow to getting around to this, but better late than never...

My husband, our three children, crazy blue heeler, cat, our expanding flock, and I have been at it for over five years and decided to start a farm in Floyd, Virginia. We produce organic fruits and veggies, organic and heirloom seeds (coming soon), kosher eggs, and raise heritage breed chickens.

Our home flock (the ones we could never sell) consists of mixed breeds, two Leghorns we call Aflac, a couple Rhode Island Reds one of which we call Red who looks like a dinosaur and protects the flock rather well, an Ameraucana named Gabby, Buff Orphingtons, and our Madia, who appears to be an Australorp mix of some kind.

We raise hatching eggs, pullets, and cockerels for the following breeds:

Buff Orpington
Cuckoo Marans
Delawares
Croad Langshan
White Leghorn
“Olive Egger”
Rhode Island Reds
Wheaten Ameraucana
Blue Laced Red Wyandottes
Silver Laced Wyandottes

We plan to raise Isbars, Chocolate Orpingtons, and Lavender Ameraucanas soon. We feed them organic and they are healthier birds and lay better eggs from my experience when fed organic. My husband, bemoaningly, builds all our coops. I am looking to become a certified poultry tester for the NPIP Certification program, but for now we are starting out with small steps and documenting it on our blog.

I'm looking forward to meeting more people who are crazy about chickens too.

WELCOME! Glad you found us, and you have quite a few lovely breeds that you're raising! Best of luck - I've met some lifelong friends here on BYC, and I wish the same for you!
