I am back with raising chickens. Raised them for years in So Cal 20 some years ago. We are building a nice insulated coop. Need advise on keeping water from freezing in winter. Looking forward to this forum. Thanks

Hello & welcome from Utah!

Where are you in Idaho? I was just in Twin Falls (hi cajun1!) this past weekend.

We went to D & B supply on Saturday to look for waterers. We also will need a source of heat to prevent our water from freezing. We didn't see any water heaters in their chicken area so we're going to look around elsewhere for ideas. I know they make them, I just don't know what they look like or where to get one.

If you find one you like send me a PM! I'll do the same.

from Highland County Ohio!!! In the winter you can fill up the waters with warm water instead of cold so that it does not freeze so easy.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Warm water doesn't last long in our truly frigid winter climate. I have a metal platform water heater that is worth every cent I paid for it.

Hello and :welcome

You should put your waterer onto a heater. I've always heard that works well!
Doen here it's more of a problem of trying to keep the water cool in summer.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D
