Hello! I just wanted to stop by and say "Hello!" I'm a chicken newbie and am still learning the ropes. Currently, I'm a SAHM to a 3 year old and a 1 year old, and the kids are loving these new chicks of ours. I have 3 ISA Brown Chicks that are about a week old. From what I've read the ISA Brown is just like a mutt of the chicken world? I got the girls, and the coop, from Tractor Supply Store here, and am excited about this new venture. We've already been lucky enough to be dealing with the crusty butts, so I'm hoping the Olive Oil and apple cider vinegar in their water will help.

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on the new chicks and lovely to hear the children are enjoying raising them. You should have some excellent egg layers with your ISA Browns they go by different names but yes they are a cross bred chicken.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join to our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Isa Brown is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are intentional hybrids bred by crossing red gene roosters with silver gene hens. Not only can the resulting offspring be sexed by color from hatching, but they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from those 3 girls. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
