I'm really not sure - my sister (has large chickens) and my mum (Pekin Bantams) all say that everything we are doing is right and exactly what they would do. We are just to the point of not knowing if they are a bad batch, or if the new Brinseas 600 we have is bad, or if its something we are doing etc.

Thank you for the links I will be reading over those with my husband.

We have a digital thermostat under the heat plate on the brooder floor. It's covered with a paper towel and some pine shavings. The temperature seems to fluctuate between 83.5 to 87.5. I know the plate is much warmer, but others say we should have a more solid reading. They are 2 - 3 weeks range now so we increased the height slightly to give us those temps. Before it was at approx. 90. We are so scared of using the heat lamps (my father is a retired firefighter and I'd never heard the end of it from him), plus all the horror stories we've seen/read online. We are trying to keep the reading as close as possible. They don't seem hot (no panting, etc.) and they do not seem cold (piling up on top of each other or shivering). They seem happy and doing healthy stuff that chickens do (peck, scratch, eat, drink, sleep, play/run. The only problem is they keep dying 1 by 1
