Hi all! I'm Amber from Indiana! I can't wait to read all the info and stories this board has to offer.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
No, I am not new to chickens. In 2005, I moved from town into the country. The previous owner had a lot of goats, chickens, ducks, and dogs. They didn't catch all of the animals though. There were two chickens and a dog left. The white hen died right after we moved in but Sir Bucko remained my pet for about a year. He was just a cross but looked a lot like a New Hampshire. My friend's family show birds regularly so I got a little Cochin cross for Bucky's girlfriend. They bonded very quickly but one night they did not return to their coop. I believe that a fox or racoon got them. Right after, my friend gave me two blue Cochins from her show stock. I had them for a couple years before the hen successfully hatched three chicks. I have also had many different breeds and crosses during that time. I moved back to town and gave the five Cochins back to her. But now that I've moved again, I'm excited to have some poultry back in my life. They are awesome pets.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
3 chickens and 2 ducks
(3) What breeds do you have?
Golden Comet, Rhode Island Red, Cornish cross, Blue Swedish, Unknown (black Swedish?)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Dogs (American Pit Bull Terriers), dog sports, Betta Splenden, reading, games, fishing, hiking, etc
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am currently a vet tech student and I work at the local humane society. I'm obsessed with American Pit Bull Terriers and all animals really. I have one dog (Emily), three cats (Destiny, Angel, Oden), 15 Betta, 2 koi, and you already know about my birds. Umm.. I live way out in the middle of nowhere on ten acres with a huge pond. I guess that's it... Haha.
