Hi everyone! My name is Krista and I'm addicted to poultry!
Two years ago, my husband suggested we get a few chickens and I thought "why not?" Our original intent was to get 4-6 layers, but the minimum purchase at the local Rural King was 25, so we took home 25 of the little peepers. We've added and subtracted, learned how to butcher excess roosters, lost some to predators, acquired more and also acquired a few Muscovy ducks. Right now, I have 29 adult chickens of various breeds plus two bantam chicks, 6 adult Muscovies and 4 ducklings with another dozen or so due any day now. I love my birds, and I love their personalities. They free range on our five acres, and while we do lose some to predators occasionally, it makes me happy to see them roaming around and doing what chickens and ducks do.
