Well, we were given 7 chickens two days ago and they seem to be settling in nicely to the coop. I would like to set up the roosts and am wondering if it is better to use, straw, hay or wood chips in the laying boxes? They are about 6 weeks old and I was also wondering how long to wait until I feed them table scraps?

Hi and :welcome

I suppose it doesn't really matter what you use in the nest boxes - all those options seem pretty good. Our chickens drag leaves and grass in there anyway.
Although they do tend to kick straw and hay out of the box.
Anyway, I guess it's up to you!

We gave our chickens kitchen scraps when they were about two-three months old. Although they definitely wanted to get to them before that. lol.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. I use shavings in my nest boxes, but if they are only 6 weeks old, I wouldn't put the nest boxes up just yet. I wouldn't give any scraps just yet. They are too young. Their digestive system is still sensative. :thumbsup
