hello from kansas

Lots of people eat fertilized eggs. Most of us have roosters and want to eat our eggs. And some even claim they taste better with all that Rooster juice in them. LOL

But yes, perfectly safe to eat. They have not yet developed into anything freshly laid. So go ahead and enjoy them!!

Oh, and that is WAY too many roosters.
They will over mate your hens and kill them. Not to mention the fighting. You will only need 1 for that many hens. Or get 8 more hens each for each rooster. :-)

X2, TwoCrows gave you some very good advice there about your Roos and chickens! That is a lot of Roos for that little amount of chickens. The girls will be getting jumped on every minute if you leave the ratio like that! Like TwoCrows stated" you need to buy more Hens or get rid of a few roosters, very good idea! :)

I have bought 4 laying hens and I have been getting 3 eggs a day for 3 weeks. Today we got an egg that the shell was soft and just shriveled up. What is wrong.

Welcome to BYC! This is the place to be when you have chickens. If you will post some photos of your chickens, maybe we can ID the breeds for you and give you more precise answers on when they will start laying and how many eggs you can expect.

We bought 4 laying hens a few weeks ago. Everything has been OK getting 3 eggs a day. Today we found a soft shelled egg. What happened. Is the food wrong or what. Please help.

Hi Cheryl. I wouldn't get too spun up about a soft shelled egg. I have 22 laying hens of different breeds and occasionally we get a dud as well. You may want to add oyster grit to the feed to ensure that the birds are getting enough calcium for the egg shells. We also give our laying hens some black sunflower seeds daily. They are inexpensive and the girls love them. Good luck with your birds.
