Hello everyone! I've lived on a small family farm my entire life and have raised cattle, horses and lots of tobacco. My wife recently convinced me that we needed our own coop with chickens. So with the help of my brother -in- law and BYC I started with 12 chicks in my laundry room. I'm now down to 9 but they seem to be doing well at 3 wks. I'm currently working on the coop and I hope to have it ready before they get feathered out. I currently have 3 Golden Laced Wyandottes, 2 Columbian Rocks, 1 Black Breasted Red Phoenix, 1 Easter Egger and 2 Cuckoo Marans. I tried to get a mix to see what I like and because its fun. This is a great site and I hope to one day be able to contribute to the vast wealth of knowledge that is on this site. Until that day comes I'll keep reading and learning.

    Thanks,
    Keith O'Hair

    Hi :welcome Keith

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your chicks :celebrate That's a lovely mix you have there and a great way of getting to know what you will like by getting a good mix. Good luck with your coop build, I hope it all goes to plan. Have you checked out the coop section? Lots of great ideas that will help you I'm sure. Wishing you and your wife the very best of luck with your chicken adventures in the future. Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help you along the way.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Nice to meet you Keith. I always think it's a good idea to try out a few different breeds. Then you can decide what you like best and get more, and rehome others that do not work out.
