I now have 12 hens. 2 RIR, 5 BOrp, 2 BRock, 3 Aracauna
Bought 9 and 3 given to me from people who could no longer keep their chickens in town, Got 2 more at a local swap meet
From the Amish auction, I bought 7.
That was an amazing sale to go to. There must have been 1,000+ chickens there plus all the geese, ducks, guineas, rabbits, quail, guinea pigs, etc etc
I have not had the pleasure of living under an HOA. We had rules we signed when we bought out house, but no one enforces them. Hens are legal in our City but not Roosters. Two of the chicken I go were because a lady had them in her backyard and her HOA was making her give them up. She fought it for a year but lost the battle. The other chicken I got was because the owners had lost all their chickens to varmints and only had one left. They were giving up the chicken hobby
