Greetings to all, I have visited this site so many times since we got our chicks in April this year. I am Frank, my wife and two kids live in Los Gatos California and we have 4 chicks, now about 14 weeks old. The day we got them:

I have been building a coop since they were 5 weeks old, not quite finished yet, but come a long way:

I built it 2 feet of the ground so the chickens have a shady run area: here is a picture showing under the coop when my 7 year old daughter was playing with the chicks.

I built a feeder I saw here, the one avoids wastage, a 5 gal bucket with large PCV corner pieces, works great. I need to dig up that post say thank you. Anyhow I thought it is time to say hello to you. So hello all

Thank you! Here are few more pictures.
Two weeks ago, before I installed the automatic door opener which I will post separately when I have all the pictures transferred:

I took these after I finished installing the wire around and above the run:

In this one you can see the feeder I was talking about:

Oh and the color, yeah, my daughters picked it and who am I to argue?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. :o) Your chicks are adorable and your coop looks great. Thanks for posting the pics. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

Hi Frank, nice to meet you. Beautiful coop and bonus points because you used hardware cloth instead of flimsy chicken wire.

We're so proud of you. What breeds do you have?

Thank you Michael. I did have a look at the page before, a lot of good information there.

Thank you! Yes I knew the chicken wire would not do much good and the day we picked up the chicks we attended a class on what to look out for, how to care for them etc. We were told about the predators around here and need to use a strong wire.

We have 2 Ameraucanas, one Delaware and one Cuckoo Maran.
