We are new to chickens but I have always wanted them since I had them growing up. We are in southern Maine on the NH border and am planning to build our coop this winter in preparation for spring chick madness. I don't know how many or what kind to get yet but will be searching this forum for ideas. We have been ardent bird watchers so this is a natural move. We can't wait for chickens!!! Its exciting just to go to Tractor Supply and hang out with the chick feeders. My biggest concern is getting the coop built properly for the Maine winters. I will be insulating it and hope to site it on the southern side of either our house or barn. This is going to be such fun!! We drove to TSC yesterday just to get a copy of Storeys Guide to Raising Chickens.
Anyways, good to meet you all.
