Hello from Maine

Thank you everyone, sorry I haven't been to BYC lately. There never seem to be enough hours in a day between tending the kids and the pets. The kids are always escaping from the coop and then I have to fight with the ducks so that I can use my own laptop....or is it the other way around? lol And then there's the bunnies (15 of them), cat n kittens n dogs and chickens and turkeys. As if that's not enough I'm considering adding a couple of goats to the mix :)
Going to check out the emergency thread now tho I should have done it weeks ago. I was given some white pekin ducks and one of them was having leg problems and couldn't walk for a couple of weeks but she came out of it and is fine now. The turkey still has a leg problem and it doesn't stop her from getting to where she wants to go but I'd love to be able to see her have the proper use of both legs.
I'm also having a problem with hawks these past few weeks too. Four of my bantam pullets mysteriously vanished (only have two left now :( ) and then one morning I woke up very early to the sound of hawks screeching over head. I went outside and watched them for a while. They kept circling around in the sky and my flock was hiding in the coop. Here I was worried about foxes and coyotes and bears and such HA! The run isn't completely fenced in yet so we need to get that done but I wanted to be able to let them free range soon. Now I'm nervous about it. Don't want to lose another feathered baby but I hate the thought of keeping them confined in a run too, UGH! This is where my sheltie might come in handy tho. She hates being inside, especially if she knows the flock is out of the coop and when I let her out she stays right next to the run all day unless I force her to come inside. When she's outside I don't hear the hawks at all but that's most likely due to her constant barking. It seems like she's constantly reprimanding the ducks for no apparent reason. Now last year we had free range ducks and she hardly paid any attention to them so what is up with her this year? I just don't know lol
Anyways thank you for the warm welcomes and suggestions. I really appreciate it. Have a great evening everyone ~ Angela
