Hello from Maryland!

Thanks for all of the input. I will post pics of the entire flock tomorrow, but looking with fresh eyes, my newbie guess is that I have 4 Australorp roosters. Hopefully I am wrong (again).

Alright

What a shame they sold you something other than intended. If you have several other males, I would complain to TSC that you were told they were Black sex links. Also that you posted on BYC and we are waiting to see what restitution will be made.

Hopefully TSC will make restitution since you didn't get what you paid for. However, there is a bright spot in all of this. If TSC was going to give you the wrong birds, you couldn't have done better. Black Australorps are excellent birds; very hardy (even more so than BSLs), very calm and gentle (probably more so than the BSLs), and the best layers of the standard brown egg laying breeds (almost as good as the BSLs which are hybrids). As Percheron chick said, they will give you 5 eggs per bird per week and they will likely have a longer laying life than the BSLs.

Thanks again for steering me in the right direction. Let's see how I did:
400

Black Australorp hen? Her comb was black until 2 days ago.
400

BA rooster?
400

Not so sure on this one. Rusty collar says BSL pullet...tail, attacking of other chickens, unfriendliness toward people, and gravelly attempt to crow this morning says rooster....I am going to guess mongrel rooster?
*sigh* oh well, live and learn!

Your IDs are correct. The second rooster is interesting because he has slate shanks. Unfortunately, there is a 3rd rooster in that picture.

3 rooster out of 6 makes me think your TSC deals with straight run chicks not pullets.
