I live in the city of Massillon! I just recently had some issues saying that we are not allowed to have chickens within city limits.. I posted my whole story on another thread about legalizing chickens! I'm fighting for my chickies!!

Welcome to the obsession!

Massilon is in city limits so I would guess your best bet would be to go to your towns board meetings and ask their....

I am new to ohio (Moved from PA in May) & I just purchased a home in Massillon! I was hoping now that I have a house to purchase some chickens. The ordinance seems to be vague but what isn't strictly "illegal" is de facto legal I would think. It basically says to keep them quiet and in a condition that they don't bother your neighbors and I think it should be ok. I did some research and was looking into certain breeds that are known to be quiet; Cochins, Orpington, Wyandotte's seem to be the breeds I am going to look into personally.

I have talked to my councilwoman for Massillon and told her what was going on and she told me in the city they do not allow farm animals but she seemed like she was willing to look into the issue. The next council meeting is Sept 8th so I will definitely be attending! The only big problem I'm having right now is with the code enforcement officer that gave me an "official notice" that chickens weren't allowed and I needed to get rid of them because of ordinance 505.01. This is the ordinance I will be fighting hardcore. This is only for animals running at large. Mine are fenced up...so annoying!! I might be headed to court soon to fight for my poor little chickens. If you see someone standing outside downtown Massillon with a 'legalize chickens' poster that will probably be me!
