Hi! Another newbie to chickens here. Just introducing myself. I don't have any chickens yet, but I'm planning on getting them this spring. Have the coop and run built already. Just need the birds now. I grew up with fresh eggs and miss them. My parents always had about 6 Rhode Island Reds.
I've really gotten into self sufficient living lately, especially after all of our food scares recently, and the chickens are going to be part of my little backyard "farm", along with my large garden. I only have a half acre but live in an agricultural zone, so hopefully my neighbors will be ok with my new pets.
Probably shouldn't have a rooster though.
I'd really love to have a variety of eggs, and I'm really interested in Ameracaunas and Silkies (they are so cute!) right now.
