Hello everyone! I'm 28 years old and located in SE PA, where I live and work on a 20 acre diversified orchard. I've been keeping a small flock for about three years now. I have also just finished hatching out the third generation of my little home breeding project. I've been brought to this forum many times over the years to find information. I figured it's time to stop lurking! I'm hoping to engage in some discussion and learn more in particular about color genetics!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have been keeping chickens for three years!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I presently have five hens, a rooster, and six chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
A Blue Birchen Araucana, a Araucana x White Leghorn, Ameraucana x Gold Laced Wyandotte, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, and a mutt rooster.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I absolutely love interacting with my birds. I believe regular handling and cuddling is integral to good husbandry. I also love the possibilities of breeding new unique birds.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love rockhounding, gardening, hiking, and exploring!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a farmer/orchardist! I also have two rescue cats.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
BYC Comes up often when I'm searching for answers to my chicken-related questions!
