I am new to Kentucky, only been here two years, originally from Iowa. Never been a farmer having lived in town my whole life. As luck would have it. My job brought me to Kentucky and 8 acres of land. Dad gardened and once he had a couple ducks but I am brand new to chickens. Purchased six form Orschlen Farm and Home first weekend in March 2012. Two RIR, two EE, and 2 BS.
I let them range when I get home from work every day till dark and they put themselves up and all day on the weekends.
They sure do grow fast and I am looking forward to eggs in a few months.
I've already gleaned a lot of knowledge from this site and decided to become a full fledged member.
One question I have is at what age can you begin to tell if I got a cockerel mixed in with the pullets I was supposed to get? I am becoming suspicious of one of the Black Star Sexed... It just doesn't look like the other. Tall, lanky, all black with just a touch of brown in the breast. He runs funny too but that is another story...
Thanks!
Steve
