Around January of this year my family and I decided to work together to make a fully functional chicken coop from, no pun intended, scratch. So not too long after we took a ride over to chicken breeder and picked up 5 randomly chosen ladies. Two of them are Plymouth Rocks (we call them the terrible two), and are the only ones of known breed. We also have a completely black one, a big buff-something, and a little spunky red one.

Recently our buff hen went broody, so we decided to visit a friend's farm to get some fertilized eggs for her to incubate. To make a long story short, 3 of the 5 hatched but only 2 made it past the first day. That was only 6 days ago! We're very interested to know what breeds the two are (I've posted my inquiry in the What Breed Or Gender is This? forum)!

Right now we're pretty much consumed with caring for our ladies but on the side I enjoy wood carving, faceting, cabbing, knitting, crocheting... you name it, I've done it.

I guess that's about all I have time for right now. If anyone would like to try their hand at guessing the breeds of our two new babies, check out my post: here

Welcome!

Are you keeping your chickens stealth? When I was checking the laws chickens in residential areas were not allowed. I'm currently in the process of building a stealth coop myself.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

jcdillin - We definitely are! Sometimes its a little tough though, especially when our black chicken, cleverly nicknamed 'the town crier', is shouting out to the whole neighborhood the arrival of a freshly laid egg!
