My name is Doug and my fiance is Ursula. We will be sharing this account most likely. We are currently looking to buy property to have free range laying chickens and a few meat chickens also. We wanted to start learning now as we won't be getting any chicken till next spring. Meat rabbits may be in my future too but one step at a time. We've always wanted chickens. We are both excited to learn all we can.

Welcome to BYC -- you are going about this very smartly by starting out with gaining some knowledge ahead of time and BYC is an excellent place to do that. There is great information on meat birds here https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/21/meat-birds-etc where you can find plenty of folks with a wealth of knowledge as to the various approaches to raising your own meat birds, the various choices in meat birds, processing methods, etc.

Hi Doug and Ursula and welcome. I agree with OGM that its good to do your research before embarking on keeping chickens. When you do find your dream property, I'd suggest starting out with a few chickens to begin with - you will gain so much experience in a very short time by doing so.
