I started my first small flock of chickens last spring. I started with 8, 7 hens and a roo. Just farm store breeds, Isa Browns and Easter Eggers. Over the winter, I accumulated a few more, Ameraucana. I'm in love with Ameraucana! And their blue eggs!!! This spring I decided to try to sell eggs. So I got 23 more chicks, how many of which I'm not positive might be boys. They should start laying the end of July! :) I went with a variety of breeds to try to get a rainbow egg basket to sell!

Hahaha! I hear ya! Once you start, you just can't stop! How many chickens are to many chickens??? I was only planning on getting 10 chicks this spring....somehow I ended up with 23....him, I still haven't figured out how I did that. My husband says "where in the heck are we gonna put all these chickens, have you thought of that?" Oops, I skipped that step!

My Broody hen hatched chick #1 of two eggs today! My first hatch ever!!! I've only gotten baby chicks before from the store. I was going to let her do everything and be with the other adults, but my husband thinks the tall ramp to the coop is a problem for the babies. Plus my chickens drink out of a nipple waterer.
