Hello everyone! We got our first chicks a few weeks ago, and every time I googled a question I ended up at this forum so I thought I should officially join.

I grew up with chickens, rabbits, goats, and other hobby farm animals, and participated in 4-H. I even got a degree in Agriscience from Michigan State University. But I never did get a job in agriculture. Last summer, almost 15 years after graduating from college, my husband, 3 girls (ages 10, 7, and 3) moved from our city-limits neighborhood to 2 acres of space.

We knew when we bought our house that "someday" we would have chickens. With all of the craziness of the last few months, we decided "someday" was this year. Three weeks ago we brought home 6 chicks from the local farm store - a Buff Orpington, a Jersey Giant, a Light Brahma, a Silver Laced Wyandotte, and two Olive Eggers.

We're currently fixing up an old shed into a coop. But we've never built anything like this before, so we're doing a lot of googling and making it up as we go! I'm excited to be here and drink in all of your wonderful knowledge!
