Hi all...I'm very new to raising chickens and am so glad I happened upon BYC! What a wonderful source of information.
So...here's a little about how we happened to start keeping chickens....
We have thought about getting chickens in the past but never really took it any farther then a thought, that is until my son's 3rd grade class hatched 19 eggs this past month and we were lucky enough to get to bring 5 of the chicks home. We have 4 Barred Rock and 1 that I'm not quite sure what it is...it started out a very light yellow when first hatched and is now white with some dark gray flecks on it's wings and a teeny dark spot on it's head and it has kind of gray feet (almost a gray green slate color?). Anyway we are really enjoying watching our baby chicks grow at such an alarming rate! I never knew they grew so fast. They are now 2 weeks old (hatched on 14th and 17th of May).
Anyway...I'm glad to be here and I'm looking forward to learning everything chicken.
Here's a picture our babies when they were a week old... Early is the one in the front (he was hatched first) and Butter is next...the other three (one is not pictured) don't have names yet as they're very hard to tell apart~
