Hi all, Just wanted to post here to introduce myself. My name's Megan and I'm so happy to have found this site.
I'm not entirely new to having chickens, although it's been awhile. My daughter was given a Silver duckwing earlier this summer and he has pretty much been a gateway chicken. She adores him and he's been a pretty awesome pet so far. He would rather be around us now than the other chickens.
My cousin had too many young chicks, so he gave us several. (we already had our silver duckwing, Buddy, so whats a few more?)
Out of those, only a few turned out to be hens, so he's taking the roos back. Except "Water" - (my kids named him) - he's turning out to be my son's bird. Low man on the todem poll.. and he's about as mellow as they get.
My daughter's birthday is tomorrow so I found her a young cochin bantam rooster. I'm not sure what color he is, but we think he's pretty cool. Now that I've seen the cochins, I just love them. I have 8 blue cochin chicks on the way and I also ordered 7 Belgian D'uccles.
They should be here next week.
We have 9 right now, mostly mixed birds, but I have a very strong interest in raising some colorful cochins! I love the calico cochin thread..
Here are some pictures of our chickens:
