We're glad to have you.

Hi there! I live in south Reno and am a new chicken mamma too. Ours are now 7 months old. We built our coop using a pallet for the bottom and framed it in 2 x 4's and used plywood for the sides and roof. We had spare roof shingles left over from our house that we used for the roof. It is a simple slant roof with a big door on one end (the tall end) to clean the coop and a tilt down door on the other end where the nests are. It is 48" x 40" (size of the pallet) and we have 4 hens. We used a 2 x 4 flat side up for the roost. As long as your girls are dry (I clean poop every day) and free of drafts, they should be fine. I close their coop door at night after they go in and I have two vents at the top and another that is closed on the back side. We have a roof over the run and use tarps on the sides right now to keep wind out and added protection from rain and snow should we ever get any :)

Pick up a copy of Raising Chickens for Dummies, easy read and lots of information in it. We built our coop based on one in there. We have a 10 x 10 dog run as their run, but they also get lots of free range time. Happy to help if I can!
