Hi everyone. I am excited about becoming a part of the group & look forward to learning a lot!
My husband & I have had chickens about six months now. We are just getting to the point where we prefer one distinct type over another, but admire all types.
We have a daughter still at home, she's 13. I am a district manager, and my husband works in the oil industry. We live in a very rural area in south MS, quiet and out in the country. The way we like it! :)
I have about 1000 'newbie' questions to ask the group!

Hello and welcome, I am also in south Mississippi. I am originally from England, but became an American citizen last Friday. This is a great site with many friendly people willing to help. What chickens do you have?

Welcome to Backyard chickens. A thousand questions would take us quite awhile and we would be neglecting all the other new members that keep signing up.

. You probably can find most of the answers at the Learning Center. and Raising Backyard chickens forum.

Hi Chicapee! Thanks for the reply.
We are just getting to where we have our own favorite types, but we have several that are not purebred. I have four lavender orpington young ones. Almost four months old. And a pair of partridge Cochins. My husband prefers EE's, and my daughter has FCBM, & another type I can't remember how to spell. Lol.
What about you?

I used to have chickens when I lived in England and when we lived in Arizona. Now that we have settled here in Mississippi, we decided to have some more chickens. We started with 8, from tsc. 3 asian blues and 5 white rock x. They are 8 weeks old now. The rock x, are due to be processed this week.
I just hatched 5 blrw last week and they are in the brooder. I have 6 white palm turkey eggs and 8 fbcm eggs in the incubator that I set last saturday. I am having so much fun.

I am, also. They are so entertaining and each have their own personality. It's really relaxing after a long day of work to just go sit in the pens and give them treats.
I have four lavenders about 9 weeks old now. Only one hen. So I will have to purge two Roos.

I'm going to wait to see who is the best to 'standard' before I let any one go, though. What do you do with the turkeys? Are they kept as pets also?

That was confusing, ha. We have several other breeds and chickens. But the lavs are strictly mine. They were a Mother's Day gift. :)
