We looked but they were locked up tight in the coop to keep them safe from the raccoons and foxes overnight. They could not have gotten out until the coop was smashed open and since chickens don't swim and that was a raging flood, I don't think any survived. We also lost a 17 year old cat that night. It wasn't good!Could they have jumped out and into a tree? Perhaps some survived....![]()

oh, I'm sure you're right, I was just wishing aloud that it happened differently, like in a movie instead of like in real life.I don't think any survived.
Thanks. All the other coops are on higher ground than that one was. But, when we got another flood warning a few nights later we were out there pulling all the chickens, ducks and turkeys out of the coops and putting them in the garage. Thankfully that was a much smaller flood and the water did not get that high the next time. That is definitely rough. Hopefully it never happens again.![]()

Missing is worse that "dead where you can see what happened". I don't know how people cope with missing people, it's bad enough when an animal goes missing and you can never be sure what happened.in the vain hope even one survived.
That is very true. Losing the chickens was bad enough but not knowing what happened to my 17 year old cat is worse. I have nightmares that he just go washed downstream and is wandering around lost and starving. I would rather he drowned than that, wish I would have found his body so I knew for sure. It will haunt me for a long time to come I am sure.Missing is worse that "dead where you can see what happened". did he go missing in the same flood?
