Springfield, Missouri
Just want to say hello. I Live near Springfield, Missouri on ten acres. This year we had 19 turkeys and 50 chickens, plus 2 Emden geese. This is our second year here, and so far we have done pretty good. I have a lot of thoughts and have accomplished a lot it seems. I also have a few questions that I am hoping to get answers for or at least inputs from some one who has similar experience.
Specifically, I am thinking about keeping turkeys this winter to breed in the spring, and there is surprisingly little information on the subject. Plan to keep a pair of bourbon reds, and also a Spanish black tom and a blue slate hen.

To a long future together.

Clay and Connie.

from our small full time farm in Georgia where we raise and sell chickens, guineas, ducks, geese and turkeys, bunnies/rabbits, milk goats, and also raise pigs and beef and fresh chemical free vegetables and cooking herbs.... We love our work...We say it's the most fun we ever had for the least amount of pay!

Re your turkeys wintering over, we built huge separate boy and girl runs where they have LGD protection. You will need to feed and water them but our areas are grassed with a lot of foraging space as well.

This allows them to rest over the winter and for the boys not to fight.

We have several kinds of turkeys...
Royal Palm
Bourbon Red
Jersey Buff (rare)
Pencil Red
Bronze

If you need more info, feel free to pm me on wintering over.

Have a blessed and happy time here on BYC...It's full of info and kind and friendly folks! And please let me know if we can ever help you navigate or in any other way!
