Hi!
I'm SideShowMel (usually go by SideShowMom but that was taken), SAHM of two with an aquaintance who has chickens as pets. I love her flock and would like to see if having a hen or two would be a good fit for our family and home. She is going to let one of her sweet hens keep an egg or two to hatch for us. I have a reasonably-sized back yard with two small garden ponds and a larger than averge shed (I think it was meant as a workshop but not finished out completely. There is some electrical, but it's not live, some insulation, and no ventilation aside from the gap in the plywood covering where the double doors are supposed to be.). And the best; it's a rental! We plan to be in it for a long time, maybe buy, but are pretty free to do what we want.
We also have two cats, a small dog, many fish, guinea pigs, a tortoise, and a pair of doves that found us after being turned loose in our neighborhood a couple of weeks ago (tame, white, wings clipped, sweet, mated pair).
I want to give this a serious go, found out the city regs and am researching environmental, food, health, everything I can.
Nice to meet y'all!
