Hi,

I am a newbie just entering the egg hatching world, and have 21 eggs incubating. I started them on March 20th, and have a serious question: I forgot to take out the little red stoppers (2 of them) on top of the incubator after 3 days.

I just realized it today, so have I killed my hatch or compromised them? What should I do? I took the red plugs out today, but am now wondering if I have ruined the hatching process.

Any pointers??

Where in Montana are you? I live in Colorado but was born and raised in Great Falls. I miss Montana so much....wish I could answer your question but dont have any incubator experience to share. Good luck with your hatch!

Have you had a hygrometer in there to check humidity? It's possible you may be able to reduce the humidity for the coming days to let the eggs lose enough moisture for the air cells to grow enough for the chicks to still hatch. I wouldn't give up on them yet. worse things have happened before with endings that turned out ok. start a thread under incubating and hatching eggs and you'll find someone that can answer this for you. I am in the SW corner of MT, down about 90 miles North of Yellowstone Park, beautiful area.

Just to let you know though - it is snowing right now, there is over 18 inches of snow on the ground and still going strong. I am ready for this winter to be over!

I lived in Colorado (west of Denver) before I moved here. Loved Colorado, but fell in love with Montana when I visited, so went back, got my stuff, and moved up here.

I'm not sure what type of bator you have, but mine has the red stopper on top and I have never taken it out. I have a Hova Bator 1588. Go check in over at the Incubating Eggs section, you should get a more definative answer there. Also, a good digital thermometer/hygrometer is what you need if don't have one already. Don't give up on the eggies!
