So serious question here.Something has taken two of my Banty hens:( first one inside the coop on her nest, no blood no feathers no chicken body anywhere just the gizzard and one wing left on the nest...the second one same thing except a wing and a foot was found outside in the chicken yard. I'm at a loss!! Any ideas what is doing this??

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow So sorry about your loss! Did this happen during the day or at night? If at night, it could have been a raccoon or a skunk. Idk what would do something like that during the day though.....

Also, are there any opening on your coop? If they were taken at night that is?

They were taken mid after noon I have netting over the chicken yard itself and the perimeter buried in the ground. I also have 4 month old turkeys loose in big chicken pen without netting over the top and other large hens with them. It's only my lil gals that are overly protected that are missing.

I'm going to say skunk or raccoon because, a weasel would have left the whole body there. A coyote would not have been able to get in by the sounds of it. Raccoons and or skunks are not always nocturnal and raccoons in particular are crafty little buggers, and will figure out a way in. When I growing up we had a raccoon break a window(it had a very small hole in it from hail) and literally ripped a hole into the wall to get in the side of the coop where the chickens were. (It was a 2 room coop, one of this with a small roof over the front and a taller roof on the back room). If it was a skunk, you would probably be able to smell it. There's one that's been scoping out my yard the last two nights, and I know immediately she's around.
