My name's Amanda. I have a small soaping business and I homeschool my 2 boys. We are looking to buy a house in bethpage, tn, but I can't find any ordinances on chickens or livestock. The house sits on 1 1/2 acres, not sure if that makes a difference. Ideally, I'd also like two goats to go with some chickens. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Blessings, Amanda Merry

Nice to meet you Amanda. I think you best bet would be to post on your state thread. That way you may be able to rally other chicken folks behind you. Some may even have gotten their city or village restrictions changed in favor of having chickens. You DO want to have the legalities in your favor. You can count on at least one neighbor who feels they MUST report you if there is any infraction.

Hope you will be able to have your birds. Welcome to Backyard chickens. If you go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum - you can locate and post on your state thread. Maybe there is also one for your city. Wish you the best of luck

Hi Amanda, welcome to BYC!

Just in case you haven't seen this yet, there is an article in the Learning Center on chicken laws, it includes a link to a database of local laws & ordinances. The article also provides tips on various regulations you might encounter and tips on how to change the laws. I hope you'll be able to keep chickens but just in case you run into some roadblocks, the article might give you some help:

Good luck to you!
