Hello,
My name is Emily and I have been a chicken enthusiast for the last 3 years! Having raised 2 broods of chicks in the past, I am now on my 3rd batch as of today!
Amber Whites, Buff Orpingtons and Barred Plymouth Rocks have been the chicks I raised the last two years, but today my fiance, Mitchell, and I purchased 5 chicks of all different breeds from Southern States! One is a Brahman--with little feathers on her legs--one is an Ameracauna, one is a Welsummer, one is a Comet and the last is a Jersey Giant!
I found this site while searching for answers to my many chicken questions over the years, but finally joined today as I have a sick little chick from that bunch!
I posted about her in the Raising Baby Chicks and Emergencies Forums.
I am equally excited about getting some advice on my predator problems! We have lost 4 chickens in the last 3 years to neighborhood dogs, coyotes and the occasional hawk, since we keep them in a half-acres lot fenced with chicken wire. This may not seem like a huge loss, but since we only keep about 6 to 7 chickens at a time it has been upsetting to us. We are down to 2 adults, but these 5 chicks will certainly enhance our flock! Where should I post about predator problems?
Thank you for the welcomes I have received already! I am anxious to read the replies to my threads!
