In the Brooder
I am brand new to chickens, but am waiting for our first ones to hatch (7/9) and get them in the mail. If all goes to plan, we’ll receive two light Brahmas, a silver laced Polish, a silver laced Cochin and a blue Orpington.
While they will be my first chickens, I first fell in love with chickens while working at a camp in Maine for a few summers. I was surprised at how much personality the girls had, and how much they enjoyed interaction. I was one of the crazy staff members who was talking to them after a week. That summer I found BYC, and became a lurker. Five years later, and after extensive research, I ordered chickens and joined as a member.
I work in the arts and teach at a nearby University. When not working, I enjoy being in the yard, outdoors, working on projects around the house, and reading. In addition to the new chicks, I have two Chinese Cresteds (my fur babies), a cat, and a Dumeril’s Ground Boa. My husband used to work in the veterinary field, so we’ve had everything from parrots to chameleons to a rat.
