Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
I am now in custody of the dog that killed my chickens and she is going through training before she will be available for adoption so I am not real concerned about her. I anticipate that we will have some problems with vermin (raccoons, possums, coyotes, foxes, etc) as the weather continues to warm up so I am looking to update the predator protection for the coop.
Currently, the remaining birds are free-range during the day and at dusk they go back into the coop where I shut them in and I close and turn on the electric fence that surrounds the coop. For me, the electric fencing doesn't give the birds enough room to roam and to enjoy the weather so I really do want to try and preserve as much of the free-ranging lifestyle as possible. I am doing some research and will be picking out what kind of coop I want to build over the coming weeks and I am going to build some other enclosed areas (some mobile) for the birds to use.
I've been pretty busy repairing the recycled brooder over the last few days. I can't wait to get it done so that I can order some chicks!
