I used this site to research getting chickens. I have 2 layers, Loretta a barred Plymouth Rock and Hennie an Americauna who lays blue eggs. I have a Mille d fleur chick. They free range in my backyard. My husband does not eat eggs but he does eat cake, etc. made with eggs. They are fun and affectionate pets.

Yes, chickens are a lot of fun to keep and can be very affectionate as well.

So glad you are enjoying your flock!

Welcome to BYC! This is the place to be when you have chickens, and you're right, they are fun and affectionate pets. Good luck with your flock.

I have also "lost" 2 chickens, Ellie was killed in our yard by a critter unknown. Coco started cock a doodling one day. I have a funny story about Coco. We bought our coop from Costco and recently DH and I went to shop for the usual and a lady was waiting to load up her new coop. Of course I started up a conversation about how great chickens are.... and DH came up and said except one is a rooster and we cannot have a rooster (in the city). I showed her picture on my phone and she ended up following us to our house to pick up her new rooster. He was beautiful!
