Cornelia, GA (NE GA)
Hello. My name is Tracy and I live in Cornelia, GA with my family. I'm married and have 4 kids and 1 grandson. We moved here last year from metro Atlanta in order to enjoy a quieter and slower lifestyle. My daughter and grandson also moved up here and we all love it!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, we got them last month. I have wanted chickens for a long time, but we couldn't have them where we lived before. I tried getting the chickens last year, but we decided that adding chickens while trying to unpack and settle in was too much. So, we got them this year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We bought 12 pullets and 2 straight runs. One of our straight run Cochins didn't live long. We think all 13 that we have are actually pullets.
(3) What breeds do you have?

1 Cochin, 2 California Whites, 2 Black Sex Links, 2 Barred Rock, 3 Golden Comets and 3 ISA Browns. I'm not sure we actually have both Golden Comets and ISA Browns because those 6 all look the same to me.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I enjoy flower and vegetable gardening, nature walks, crochet, reading, card and board games with my family, Dungeons & Dragons with my family, riding our motorcycle with my husband, sewing, crafts, and collecting vintage items for decorating our 1912 Craftsman cottage. I also collect vintage books. I look for old cookbooks, homemaking books, children's books, poetry books, textbooks, and classic literature. Another thing I enjoy is baking and cooking keto and gluten-free from scratch.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My husband and I have been married for 22 years. He is an elementary school principal and up until this year, I have been a SAHM for the past 22 years. During that time, we were foster parents for 8 years and adopted two through the foster system. They both have special needs and we homeschool them. We are now in the middle and high school years of our home education. During this school year, I started working a few days a month as a substitute teacher for the same county my husband works for and our two homeschoolers volunteer at their dad's school on the days I work. I am back in college, and loving it! This spring is my first semester after having dropped out 22 years ago when I got married. My 20-year-old son lives at home while he attends a technical school for drafting and AutoCAD. My 28-year-old daughter and 4-year-old grandson live a mile away, so I get to see them often.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I found BYC a few years ago when I first started researching chickens. I finally joined since we are now happy chickie owners.
