Hello fellow bird keepers!

I'm really happy to be joining you all on our bird raising adventures!!

I'm Juel, a maturnal nature-lover from the north-east of Scotland.
My ma has kept chooks for 20-odd years. I've chicken-sat a few times over the years.

Recently I acquired 14 quail eggs. 13 went into the Incubator 16 days ago and to my surprise one egg hatched this afternoon.

I've joined BYC because I flock here for advice for my ma's brood regularly. I'm becoming a member so I can stay informed and interact with quail keepers.

My long-term plan for the covey is to keep pests out of my greenhouse. A sort of natural bio-control if you like. I fully intend to provide them with a great life in exchange for their help in my GH.
They will be considered working pets.

Their temporary brooder is a DL set-up.
I've used shredded cardboard, dried forsythia leaves, dried herbs, coir and soil from my garden as a mix to about 10cm depth. I'll add scratch and a dust bath once they are bigger.
I've a 60w heat bulb and a 60w reptile heat lamp (no light emitted). A hidey-hole, a no-drown water bottle and a dish for food.

Looking forward to interacting with you all.

TRIGGER WARNING
The extra roos will be fattened up for eating.
