I've been following threads on BYC off and on for a couple of years now and am thrilled to say that I'll soon be getting chickens of my own! Our family moved from Chicago to NE Tennessee last spring, and our plan has been to get three or four hens this spring. We'll have our coop ready in the next week or two, so the time has come. We're in the process of trying to find some pullets now.
I've contacted a number of people in the NE Tennessee Western North Carolina area but haven't had any luck so far. We'd like to find chickens that are young but old enough to be outside in the coop. They'll be pets as well as egg layers for us, so we're looking for a breed that tends to be social.
