My name is Mike and I just got 6 (what I believe are) pullets from Tractor Supply Company about 3 weeks ago. I am in the process of converting an old playset into a coop and I have found this website very helpful.

lol the great N.J! me too! supposed to be the garden state, yet more then like 9 chickens is considered "too many." Is it possible that anyone other than me is an N.J. 4H member?

...I wish I could keep roos for flytying feathers.... mmmm....fish....

Welcome to BYC! I too started out with a sane sized flock of 8 chicks last year then went to 7 since one was a roo and had to be returned to the farm. We converted an old 5x8 dog house (built for three good sized dogs) to a coop. Two additions to the coop later and they now live in the taj mahal at 8x14. This year I added 5 more chicks since I wanted a few Marans and of course have the coop space but somehow when I went back to the farm to ask a questiion I left with 2 more chicks.

Beware of that chicken math - it adds up quick!
