Hello from New Zealand :)

Gosh that isn't a lot (better than none I guess!). The only thing with only having 2 is if one passes you are stuck in a lonely only chicken scenario which is very stressful for them so maybe worth considering getting a 3rd.
That was originally suggested to me specifically for that reason. I will get another if something happens.
I have been through the same scenario with all the rats I have had. I thought one time when I had one adult left, I got three young brothers, thinking they would all have each other to play with when the big one did die.
That theory went right out of the window. One little one bonded with the older one. When he died, the little one got depressed, wouldn't eat, wouldn't play. A lot of encouragement was needed for him to get involved with his siblings again.

Hi Sue!
Another New Zealander here! I'm up in Northland!
Great job on rescuing an ex-battery hen, it always warms my heart when someone does something like that, very sweet of you :)
If you have any questions, there will be someone on BYC who will have an answer!
Hi Feather Hearts,
Nice to meet you.
How many chickies do you have?
Sue

Hello KiwiSue49.
Welcome to BYC.
Where do Chips Lara and Homie live?
Where abouts in NZ are you? I loved NZ when I was there.
Hi Shadrach,
They hang out either:
in their cage or
they have two of my drawers in my bedroom
or in an old tupperware cake container in one of the higher up kitchen cupboards.
I am in Fairfield, Lower Hutt.
When were you here?
Sue

I visited NZ in 1982. I had plans to settle there.
Are there many battery hen rescue schemes?
