I was excited when my huband found a link to this forum on one of his sites (which has nothing to do with animals) I am a member of a horse forum that I love but to have one for chickens to is fantastic. My husband & I have a six acre farm with a fantastic barn. this is my brother-in-laws semi in front of our barn. it is 100 ft long, 35 ft wide & 3 stories high.
we have 3 children, Ashley 20, Austin 18 & Anna 9. Austin is severley autistic & I take care of another little boy who is severley handicapped. we adore special needs children & surround ourselves with them. that theme has carried over to the farm that we named "Castaways". we take animals that have been castaway because of behavior, abuse, handicaps scars, ect.
we are owned by...12 horses....6 goats...3 dogs...2 pigs...1 cat & the chickens???? well...thats the only thing that outnimbers the horses..lol 12- Thai ....7- Hmong....9- Brown Leghorns..5- Black Australorps...3- White
Rocks...2 Aracuna...1 Buff Orphington.....1 Barred Rock...& currentley 60+ of their chicks.( that # changes daily) my chicks are bought every week or so by the woman I raise them for. she bought 72 babies that hatched last week. I plan on keeping about 40 of the chicks I have now. My favorite rooster "Rosco" is getting up there in age so I will retire him this fall with a few of his hens to keep him company. This is Rosco, my Hmong Rooster..
I have raised chickens for almost 3 yrs & I love it, in fact we are getting ready to expand the chicken operations. It is great that now I will have others to talk to about them.
