(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have been a chicken keeper for the last 13 years. When I moved in with my current husband, he had a small flock and I immediately fell in love with them!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 14 chickens - 12 hens and 2 roosters.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Bared Rock, 2 Copper Marans, 2 Mille De Fluer D’Uccle bantams, 4 Polish (1 is a silkie show girl) bantams, 1 D’Uclle Frizzle, 1 silkie bantam, and 2 other mixed bantams.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love their silly personalities and they are calming to me.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Cooking, reading, gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I direct a local Head Start program; been with the program for 24 years. I am married and have an 18 year old daughter who is in her freshman year of college. We have 3 dogs and a cat.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I am a part of the FB group but decided to go directly to the main community.
