(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my first 6 chickens middle of June 2011 at a chicken swap at the Tractor Supply Store parking lot. They were 8 weeks old. I was hoping to get all hens but I picked out the colors I wanted and got 3 hens and 3 roos.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I lost one of my roosters about a week after a hawk attack. He probably had internal injuries that I couldn't see. I have the original 5 and 3 just hatched this week. There are still eggs in the nest box so I'm hoping for more.

(3) What breeds do you have? The roosters are a silkie and a New Hampshire red. The hens are a Polish bantam, a Polish Gold laced Wyandotte and one that looks just like a blue copper marans but doesn't lay the chocolate eggs.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? My niece sent me the link.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Quilting, knitting, crochet, computer games.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.I'm married with 2 cats. My daughter and two of my grandsons live an hour from here and my oldest grandson lives 1/2 hour beyond that in Vermont. I publish a web site reviewing quilting products, I design quilts and quilt patterns, and I work part time in a local quilt shop. My husband publishes the town newspaper.

Thanks for the enthusiastic welcome. I hope to learn a lot from everyone here so I can get as good raising chickens as you all are.

Nice to meet you here! I'm in NH as well and also new to BYC and to chickens in general (just picked up my first 5 chicks yesterday at one of the swaps).
