Hello from Camscoop,
We have only had our 2 chickens for almost 4 months and they are great except.....
Well, we were told they were both hens. Im sure we are not the first or the last people this has happened too. The chickens names are Rock and Red. Im looking forward to the eggs but not looking forward to having Rock fertilize any eggs. Ideally we would like to have 3 hens but now we are faced with a small set back, Rock is a Roo. We have grown a bit attached to our two chickens and dont want to separate the couple as Im sure they have grown closer too.
Its great to be here and have the support of this large community.
Talk to you soon.

There is no difference between fertile and non fertile eggs as far as edibility. They must be incubated before they start to develop. One rooster and one hen; however, will lead to excessive wear and tear on the hen as roosters are randy critters.

Hi and :welcome

Yea, getting a few more hens for Rock would be good!
As long as it's legal for you to have a roo where you live, you should be fine. :)

Thank you everyone. I am in the process of locating a new hen. Does anyone know if its better to find a hen the same age as the two I have or just introduce a new baby hen? Slowly of course. Or does it even matter?
Thank you.
