Hey all! Love the site. I've been watching and reading from afar, learning as much as I can to be a good dad to my 13 chicks. I have 7 White Leghorn (I think) pullets, 3 red (unknown which variety... RI, NH or Red Star) pullets and 3 Black Autralorps straight run birds... The Leghorns are about 10 weeks old and the others are about 6-7 weeks old. If I were a betting man I'm thinking the Australops are 2 roos and a pullet.

My question... When will the cockerels start becoming aggressive? Is it possible to keep 2 roos?

Thanks is advance for your help!

from Colorado!

Go ahead and post your mystery reds when they get a bit older and you should get an answer as to exactly what they are!

Oh, and you can definantly have more than one roo. I had to give away my only little cockrel (he snuck into a pullet bin somehow and they're illegal in my area) so I can't speak as to when the hormones kick in with them, just that as long as you have enough ladies to go around you shouldn't have an issue with a couple of boys in the mix.

Welcome to BYC. If the roosters are raised together, generally, they'll get along. One will be subordinate to the other. Two roosters will tear your hens up by overmating. It is recommended that there is one rooster per 10 hens.
