A week or so ago I moved a couple hens. I noticed the one had blood on its throat. As if being slit. I figured she must have somehow cut it on perhaps the box inside their hutch (papercut), or against the wood doorway. But she healed quick enough in the other hutch.

Today I see a hen with a beat up throat. Towards the side this time, but feathers gone and it looks a little puffy.

I'm thinking I have an overzealous roo that isn't waiting for the top of the head?

What's your setup like? Photos

Any sharp edges in the hutch?

Photos of the injuries and your birds?

What's the dimensions and how many hens to roosters?

Do you see the hens fighting? Do they have any hiding places?

How old are they?

Anything they eat or drink out of is smooth plastic with rounded edges.
The only things, like I mentioned in my first post, that maybe could be considered sharp is the cardboard box I have in the hutch and the doorway between the open side and the enclosed side.

I've never seen anyone fighting. Nobody chasing anyone around.
But I do realize I need to get my hens separated soon. Probably a little late in doing so, but they all seem to be getting along (until now) and I procrastinated.

No chance of rats. Actually, I've never even seen a rat where I live, but I hear they live in the vineyards and I am right across the street from a vineyard.

And the only snake I have is garden snakes. I'm not sure one of the two-footers could fit through the half inch hardware cloth.

As I was building I took my hand and went over their living quarters to make sure there wasn't a stray screw or nail sticking out... but let me double check the doors. As they were the last thing to go on.
