Hi all,

Thought I'd brave it and sign up seen as I've got two chickens arriving Monday! Anyone got any hints or tips? They're coming from a free range farm but my other half has decided chickens are terrifying!

Any tips greatly received!!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :welcome

Have you been to our learning center yet? They have some really informative articles to read, here is the link to it, https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center.

I'm sorry your other half is afraid! I'm sure you have tried getting him/her to interact with them! If not, the 2 new ones your getting should maybe be able to help. Once seeing them everyday and seeing that they don't attack everybody every second of the day, he/she might come to like the chickens!

What kinds are you getting? Is it a calm kind or jumpy? Sometimes that makes a big difference with people. I know my one daughter used to be afraid but I went and got some silkies and she can carry them around and knows they won't hurt her.

Also if you need anything or have questions about your new ones this thread is really good, https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-to-raise-baby

If you click this link it will take you to the state threads and you can find yours and click on it, it's where you can visit and talk to peeps from your area, https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

Also if you would like to post pictures of your chicks you can do so here, https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/39/pictures-stories-of-my-chickens.

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, chickens can be daunting at first, especially before hand. But once your other half starts seeing all those great eggs fried up on the plate, maybe their minds will change!

Basskids has left you with all kinds of good reading. Definitely stop by our learning center for some great articles on getting started and raising your new birds.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

Oh, and Henrietta is adorable!

The pictured hen is calm.
Just waiting for friend to find another calm hen and that they both get along :)

Thanks for the links, I'll have a scrap about :D

She's a cutie-pie! How old are they?

Both about a year if my memory serves me correct, I don't mind how old so long as they're happy :)

They're both coming from a free range farm of a good friends, so are in good condition which always helps :)

Are they laying? The move on over to your place with new surroundings, etc., may upset the "apple cart" but I'm sure with such a loving chicken mama they'll be settled in in no time at all..best of luck!!
